Couples Counseling in Denver for Communication, Trust & Lasting Connection
Relationships Take Work. The Right Support Makes All the Difference.
Every relationship hits hard stretches. Communication breaks down, old patterns resurface, and the distance between two people can grow faster than either partner realizes. Karen gives you and your partner a dedicated space to work through what is holding your relationship back.
One of the most common fears couples bring into that first session is that therapy will turn into a verdict, that one person will be cast as the problem and the other will walk away feeling validated while their partner feels blamed. That is not how this works. Karen ensures both voices are heard and both perspectives are taken seriously, every session.
What does determine success is something only you and your partner can bring: a willingness to look honestly at your own role in the dynamic and a commitment to making things different. When both people show up with that, the potential for real change is significant.
Located in the heart of City Park and serving couples across the greater Denver metro, Karen offers in-person and virtual couples counseling for relationships at every stage, from dating to decades in.

The Work We Do Together in Couples Therapy
01
Communication Breakdowns
The same argument on repeat. Conversations that go nowhere or blow up before anything gets resolved. Couples counseling teaches you both how to actually hear each other and say what you mean without it turning into a fight.
02
Rebuilding After Infidelity
Betrayal, whether emotional or physical, doesn’t have to mean the end. With the right support, relationships can recover. Karen guides couples through rebuilding trust, processing the pain honestly, and deciding together what comes next.
03
Growing
Apart
Life changes. Careers, kids, stress, and time can quietly pull two people in different directions. Therapy helps couples reconnect with what brought them together and build something that works for where they are now.
04
Conflict That
Won’t Resolve
Disagreements are normal. Destructive patterns are not. Using Gottman Method techniques, Karen helps couples identify what’s driving recurring conflict and replace it with communication that actually brings resolution.
05
Intimacy & Connection
Physical and emotional intimacy both require attention. Karen creates a judgment-free space to talk openly about what’s working, what isn’t, and how to get back to each other.
06
Parenting
Tensions
Different approaches to raising kids can put real strain on a relationship. Couples counseling helps partners get aligned on the big decisions while respecting what each person brings to the table.
07
Premarital Counseling
Starting strong is the smartest investment you can make. Karen offers premarital counseling for couples who want to build a solid foundation before they say yes.
The Method Behind Marriage Counseling at City Park Counseling
Karen brings 20 years of experience helping partners rebuild, strengthen, and transform their relationships. Her approach draws from the Gottman Method, a research-backed framework focused on building friendship, managing conflict, and creating shared meaning in relationships.
In sessions, Karen listens to understand both sides of the dynamic, not just the surface conflict. She explores how your families of origin and past experiences show up in your current patterns, teaches concrete communication skills, and gives you real homework to practice between sessions so change doesn’t stay in the therapy room.
Both voices are heard. Both perspectives matter. Karen mediates difficult conversations with neutrality and compassion, challenging the limiting beliefs that keep couples stuck without taking sides.
What Makes This Different: The Initial Intake Process
Before your first session:
Karen speaks with each partner individually for 15 to 20 minutes. This is the only time she will speak with either partner alone.
It gives each person a chance to speak freely and feel genuinely heard before the joint work begins. For many people, especially those who worry their perspective will get lost in the room, this matters.
It also allows Karen to identify anything that could affect how the work proceeds, an important clinical step that happens quietly, without disruption to the process.
Both partners arrive at the first joint session already feeling understood. That shared starting point is where real commitment takes root.
